Some Chick's Rant 01

Posted by knuxrouge Apr. 4, 2009 @ 3:25 AM EDT

Rant 01: Sonic Unleashed's Theme Song.

You get an awesome riff.
Kick in the drums, you got a rhythm going.
This is my escape!
I'm running through this world
and I'm not looking back!

Yeah, this song is awesome, this song was partially what got me excited about the game, so when I got the game and popped it in, expecting "Endless Possibilities" by Bowling for Soup, I get this.

"What the fuck is this?"

Yeah, apparently Endless Possibilities was just the tie in, to lure us all into the game. It's pretty much nowhere to be found in the beginning of the Wii version, the Xbox and PS3 version however do have a demo with the song playing.
But thats not the point, the point it, this isn't the theme, this is.

Now I'm not saying the song sucks, it's actually pretty catchy in it's own right.
But just listen to it for about 5 minutes, then listen to this.
Notice the relation.
Sonic Unleashed's theme sounds like a fucking Super Hero theme.
Play the World Adventure song, then imagine a contemporary, slightly muscular white guy with uncomfortably, yet oddly fitting tight clothing, and a cape.

Don't lie, it fits like bread and butter.

This is the main problem I have with Sonic Unleashed's theme, it doesn't fit!
Endless Possibilities would have fit perfectly, oh so perfectly.
Even with the supposedly disliked stage and menu rock music, the themes were always nice to listen to.
Open Your Heart.
Live and Learn.
Sonic Heroes.
I Am.
His World, 2 versions!
These songs kicked ass. Even with mediocre Shadow the Hedgehog and crappy ass Sonic 06, the theme songs were epic.
But we experience a fucking combo breaker with World Adventure.
"Where's the cape Sonic!?"
It throws me off so much. It's like you had a great song, it was introduced in the trailer. Why fuck it up by replacing it.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm cool with classical/orchestra genre music, hell I make classic genre VG covers, it's not a bad song, it's pretty cool, easy to get with.
It just doesn't fit.
It could have been something that wasn't the main theme and I would have been just fine with it, but to make it the main theme is just ridiculous.
Why get a rock song if you're not going to make it the main theme, what were they thinking?

Um... Wasn't Endless Possibilities the end song, of Sonic Unleashed?

Apr. 4, 2009 | 7:08 PM knuxrouge responds:

It was one of 3 songs that played in the credits if that's what you're asking.
But again, World Adventure was also one of those 3 songs.

Ya, and by that time, people went to the bathroom.

Apr. 4, 2009 | 9:41 PM knuxrouge responds:

Must have been a long shit, cuz the credits are easily 10 minutes long.

It wasn't for my happiness.
I couldn't care either way.

You're not vague enough.

he has a million faces, I recognize them all, and one by one they all become a number as they fall (as they fall)
in th eface of reason, when I can take no more, and one by one they've all become A BLACK MARK ON THE FLOOR!
the orchestrals didn't seem to fit for me either, I actually found them rather annoying, and a major reason I don't play it anymore

Apr. 5, 2009 | 2:12 AM knuxrouge responds:

Yeah, except for me, I still play the game, the 360 version in anycase.

Sonic Robo Blast 2 full version coming out in May... I don't care if it uses sprites and a higher-res version of the Doom Engine, it looks better than anything SEGA could do, in fact, it already is, the Demo version, combined with more downloadable levels than you can possibly imagine, is superior in gameplay and replay value to any official sonic game we have gotten from sega lately, that's how I see it, I value your opinion though

Uh... k...

some guy on youtube posted some hidden acts that could be unlocked in the wii version, but at the moment I don't care too much, I might get back to it eventually though

Hidden Acts?
Like what?

Apr. 9, 2009 | 3:13 PM Mizox says:

extended daytime stages and shorter additional day stages, most people probably wouldn't have the patience to get enough medals though (good thing about the night stages is that you generally get 3 medals on the first shot and don't have to do them again)

Sounds sexy, but unecessary and redundant.
